How to come to Munich?

How to come to munich?

Munich is a big city.  Therefore you can come there by any transportation method you like.

In the North-East of the city is the airport with around 40 million guests per year. Find the most important information about flights on the Munich airport site.

You normally arrive at the central station in the heart of the city. Some trains also stop in the west of the city in Pasing. Sometimes this is a better stop if your accommodation is in the west.

By Car

Munich has good motorways for connection with the rest of Germany and surrounding countries. The motorways are very crowded and you should avoid the rush hours. But like every big city, Munich has a problem with traffic jams and car parks. Especially during the Oktoberfest time it is very crowded.

A link for an overview about closed roads is in the Oktoberfest Guide.

Attention: Environmental Zone for Cars!

This is very important if you come to munich by car. In Munich you need an environmental badge for the inner areas of the city. They cost around 8-12 Euro if you buy it in Germany. But you have to go to the right places. You can’t buy it everywhere. If you come from outside Germany you can also buy it online. I found a shop where they charge you around 30 Euro.

Car Parks

After arriving in Munich, you will need a place to park. If you have a car you can
park at every car park. Close to the Theresienwiesen it will be very hard to find a
car park. Therefore you should find another place and take the public transport.
There are several car parks in Munich.
